solutions to the hole in the ozone
Due to the widespread use of CFCs and other ozone-depleting chemicals in the late twentieth century, a considerable hole has developed in the ozone layer. The largest attempt to fix this was the Montreal Protocol, which aimed to reduce the production and use of ozone-depleting substances. The Clean Air Act in the United States helped to reduce levels of ozone-depleting substances, among other pollutants. Although it will take some time, the ozone layer will naturally replenish itself and filter out the ozone-depleting gases if these acts prove effective in reducing ozone-depleting gas emissions ("Will the Ozone Layer Recover? Can We Make More Ozone?," 2010).
