changes in biota
In recent years, many studies have shown that climate change has been shifting the distribution of many animal and plant species, resulting in the altered composition of most natural ecosystems. Species relocation by climate change is made even worse by the continued destruction of environments, oftentimes to dig up more fossil fuels to cause more climate change. Severe changes in regional ecosystem services and substantial amounts of extinctions are expected to take place if climate change continues as it is now. One of the most well-known examples of species extinction due to climate change is the polar bear, which has been driven to near extinction due to the increasing arctic temperatures and melting arctic ice caps ("The Biotic Effects of Climate Change," 2009).
